Business Intelligence is tradionally based on OLAP and requires fast processing of large amounts of structured data stored in data warehouses (data cubes, etc.). Traditional BI systems often only scale vertically. With additional machine learning / predictive analytics functions, large amounts of structured and unstructured data need to be pre-processed and horizontal scalability for parallel processing becomes essential.
